of people here but it was different. Much different.
The beach towns are full of people like those college girls who are just looking to have a good time. And that attracts people like Chase. But the people out here have already had their fun or aren’t interested in such things. They’re over and done with that lifestyle in every way possible.
But who really knows? Visiting somewhere is totally different than living there so it was impossible to ever get a real sense of a place. Additionally my perception of the city was based off these tiny little observations and interactions that may or may not be an indication of the greater truth about the place.
Although my perception of those beach towns changed when I finally noticed someone made a huge dent in my car when I was down there. So maybe the suburbs weren’t so bad. When I got my hair cut I
started wearing a hat to cover up my hair in case I thought the hair was going to be too much. But the hair was almost always too much and I liked the hat so I ended up wearing it the majority of the time.
But if here was anywhere I could rock my hair out, it was at a concert in San Francisco. I was there to meet up with Sandy who I had met when we both worked at the bar in Chicago. And it was amazingly cool. As Sandy said, these were all people who were just interested in hanging out and having a good time. San Francisco has a reputation for being a big hippy commune and there are certainly those types of people all over the place. But at the concert it was easy to see why this sort of mentality was so prevalent. You could get swallowed up in the good vibe that everyone exuded because people weren’t here to worry or be angry or depressed. They weren’t even really listening to the music. They were here to enjoy the atmosphere that everything created and just
seeing and experiencing it was something I had never been a part of.
Sandy was from Chicago but she said it has been her goal for a long time to move here and it was easy to see why. There was so much to do and see here. Of course there were the touristy spots that were overplayed as far as I was concerned, but there’s a reason touristy spots become touristy spots. Because they’re really cool to see.
Take the Golden Gate Bridge. It’s one of the most famous landmarks in the world. You show someone a picture of it and everyone instantly knows what it is so seeing it in person really shouldn’t be all that interesting. There are photographs of it from every angle and location in every little trinket shop across the city.
But the sheer size and accomplishment of the bridge is something to behold. What it must have taken to put the thing together is something that boggles the mind if you ever stop and think about it. I mean, it’s massive in every sense. The fact that
